Areas and Activities in TCC's - Montessori Preschool Classroom
Sensorial

The goal in the Montessori Sensorial area is to improve the child’s senses. We use specific materials to help children experience sight, sound, touch, taste, smell, weight, and temperature. Maria Montessori emphasized the importance of a combination of visual and tactile (touch) sense that we follow.

Practical Life

In the Practical Life area, children practice essential skills required to move forward in our world. Practical Life materials encourage children to develop self-confidence, independence, concentration and hand-eye coordination. These activities encourage left to right sequencing and fine motor skills needed for future reading and writing.

Math Area

In the Montessori school, the Practical Life and Sensorial areas come together to help develop their mathematical mind. In our Math area, we introduce children very early to math concepts. We teach them, numerals, symbols and quantities, addition, multiplication, subtraction and division.

Language

Maria Montessori developed an efficient method to teach children language skills. With Montessori’s method and materials, preschoolers begin to learn letter sounds and their symbols and match words to objects. A strong foundation is internalized to develop reading and writing skills.

Culture

  • Geography: Beautiful, large puzzle maps with consistent colour codes are used to introduce children to our world. Children trace, paint and colour the maps. They learn the names of continents and countries. We also teach aspects of different lands and cultures.
  • Zoology: Children explore different types of animals and identify their body parts, their habits and their features.
  • Botany: We explore the basic needs of plants and the methods for caring for and growing them.
  • Science Experiments Children love science experiments. We give them the opportunity to work through experiments in a safe, supervised environment.

Arts and Crafts

Children are provided with a wide opportunity to imagine and create anything. Children’s artwork is something that we sincerely appreciate and encourage. Puzzles and Building Toys A variety of puzzles and building toys are always available in the classroom.

Music

Within our daily circle time, we sing songs and dance. Throughout the day, children are also exposed to a variety of opportunities to listen and respond to music.

Physical Education

We provide a wide range of sports and other indoor activities at our school. Each sport has an ample amount of sports equipment that we provide for the children. We strive to encourage indoor activities such as dance, chess, etc. Balls, skipping ropes and games etc. are all provided outside for free play. Different types of sports, dance and games will be introduced during indoor and outdoor times.

Themes

Our Curriculum is based on Monthly themes and Mini themes. Thematic learning is a new concept in “Early childhood education”. It is proved to be a powerful instructional method for integrating various concepts in our curriculum by daily life examples and experiences. It’s geared towards the accommodation of interests of individual learners and abilities. The method connects subjects, topics and themes naturally. Learning opportunity, thus is extended beyond one class, to throughout a whole day or week. The emphasis is not on the product, but the process of learning.

Concepts

Our students are introduced to each concept in a different way. When it comes to learning, children can encounter a number of different concepts in their life. Concept based education helps children Know, learn, understand and master rather than just memorize and learn things by heart.

Projects

Children make different types of projects in a classroom with the help of teachers or in a group with their friends. They also get home assignment to make projects based on themes. After submitting their projects students have provided opportunity to explain, display and present their projects to their classmates and people beyond the classroom.

Show and Tell

Every Friday is a fun day at school. Children do lots of extra-curricular activities on this day. One of the favorite activity is Show and Tell. Based on days’ theme or concept children bring things from their home. They share and talk about the objects with their classmates.

Nature in education

We at TCC aspire to instill the importance of keeping our surroundings and the environment clean. In all aspects of the child’s education we try to teach them in the importance of conserving nature. This is done through various interactive and fun activities that interests children and helps them understand this in a simple way.

Field Trips

We take our children on field trips. These are conducted to help the child become more familiar and in tune with their surroundings and helps them understand the world around them

Community service

Community service is a great way to help children become compassionate and caring towards the environment and other people. Community service in the simplest form is intended to help the child understand ways to take care of elderly people and our surroundings.
